50 Years of Mukti Juddho: Victory flame reaches Silchar, war Veteran tributed
To mark the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Liberation, Swarnim Vijay Varsh victory Flame held at IGAR East at Srikona, Silchar.
This year Bangladesh will observe it’s 50th victory day. To mark the event, Indian PM Narendra Modi had kicked off four torch rallies from four corners of India. One of the torch has reached to the Srikona Assam Rifle camp, where the torch will be kept for three days.
The torch have been received by 1971 war veteran Subhash Chandra Rajbongshi. His invaluable efforts were remembered. Brigadier AK Sharma, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli and Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur were present at this event. While speaking to the media, veteran Subhash Chandra Rajbongshi said that his hand was severely injured by a landmine explosion. Eventually he lost one of his hands. He has said that he regrets upon seeing current situation of Bangladesh.
1971 was a key moment in the geopolitical history of South East Asia. In 1971, East Pakistan was emancipated, and disintegrated from Pakistan and gave birth to a new nation – Bangladesh. Bangladesh earned its liberation through a bloody guerrilla battle between Mukti Juddha (armed group acted for the liberation of Bangladesh) and Pakistani Military, aided by Razakars, pro Pakistani elements in Bangladesh.
Battle of 1971 saw one of worst ethnic pogroms and ear crimes in the history of human kind. India, under leadership of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi and Military Command Sam Makenshaw, intervened in that war, helped Bangladesh to get hold of capital Dhaka, Chittagong and other key places from Pakistani militaries. Millions of people were either displaced or became refugee after the incident.
