5,197 individuals got their jabs on day 1 of “Arogya Silchar”; DC urges people to utilise offline drive

Arogya Silchar’ a week long vaccination drive kickstarted today in Cachar. As part of the drive, a vaccination centre has been opened in each Municipality ward across Silchar town. At 7:00 am today, inoculation started at all 28 centres in all 28 wards.

It was raining cats and dogs in the morning accompanied by lightning and thunder. The strong wind that blew across the city had cast a shadow of doubt if the beneficiaries will turn up. “It makes me very happy to know that only three doses have been wasted out of a total of 5197 given on one rainy day in town under Arogya Silchar program,” said Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, she added, “The health team has yet again shown immense tenacity and has ensured a smooth process. Teams were ready since 5 AM and all the micro planning details helped in smoothening any eventualities with help of magistrates. Public has also been very cooperative despite rains and power cuts.”

She thanked all the teachers who actively participated in drive, health team, DDMA, Police who all worked as one unit.

“Only 41 positive cases had turned up which gives us hope to continue the fight but its still not time to let the guard down,” the deputy commissioner adds. The individuals who tested positive at the centre and did not have personal vehicle to go back to home in isolation, Administration arranged vehicle for them.

“I want to personally appeal the internet-challenged and other such sections to please come and get yourselves vaccinated as it is an offline option.
