7 arrested for allegedly eve-teasing two minor girls in Hailakandi; School headmaster lodges FIR

An eve-teasing case in Hailakandi has resulted in the arrest of seven youths. This incident happened on Saturday in the Chandrapur village of Hailakandi, which comes under the Lala Police station. According to the available information, these youths while passing on a mini-van by the Chandrapur Middle English School, allegedly pointed objectionable comments at some of the minor girls of the school. Later an FIR was lodged by the headmaster of the school and the Lala Police were successful in apprehending the alleged eve-teasers on Sunday.

The seven arrested in this case are, Kashim Uddin, Rejaul Islam Barbhuiya, Samir Uddin, Sharif Uddin, Afjal Hussain, Amir Hussain and Majmul Haque. Lala Police Station’s OC informed these boys are from the Dholcherra in Bilaipur area of Hailakandi. They were headed towards Hailakandi and they stopped near the gate of the school on the way.

According to the available information, on November 5, when they were passing such slurs at the two girls, the headmaster of the school and other teachers tried to confront them. But when that didn’t help, the headmaster dialed the local police station and the police team reached the spot. Later on Sunday, the headmaster of the school went to the Lala Police Station to lodge an FIR in this matter with the OC. Based on his complaint, police arrested seven individuals from Bailapur village, near the Assam-Mizoram border on Sunday evening.

Alongbar Basumatary, the officer-in-charge of Lala Police Station about the incident said, “The arrested criminals were passing by the school in a Maximo (mini-van) and made some vulgar comments and objectionable remarks at two minor girls of Class 8. We got the information about this incident from Chandrapur ME School. When our police team reached there, they managed to calm the situation and today (Sunday) after the FIR was lodged, we registered the case and arrested the seven individuals based on the regulations of the POCSO Act”.
