
79.40% turnout in Silchar Lok Sabha constituency; Female score higher than male
As per the final number published by the district administration, 79.40% voters turned out to cast their votes. The turnout in 2014 general elections to the Lok Sabha was estimated to be around 75.46%.
A total of 11,91,289 voters were eligible to cast their vote this time of which 9,45,834 voters visited the polling booth on April 18, 2019. 6,93,119 male voters were eligible to vote while 486145 voters turned out on the other hand, from a total of 577283 female voters 459687 went to the polling stations. 2 out of 75 voters from the third gender too voted in the recently concluded polling.
In terms of turnout percentage, 79.19% of the male voters voted on April 18 while 79.62% of the female voters made it to the booth. In Silchar Legislative Assembly Constituency female turnout percentage was more than male, 76.73% of the male voters from Silchar LAC voted on April 18 while 76.90% of the total female voters participated in what is often called the festival of democracy. One voter from the third gender also voted in Silchar.
Similarly the female turnout was more in Dholai, Lakhipur, Borkhola and Katigorah while only in Sonai and Udharbond LACs the male turnout was more than the female.
