8-Year-Old Beheaded Over Land Dispute in Cachar Tea Estate; Four Arrested

A gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through the Dwarbond’s Paloi Tea Estate in Cachar district, where an eight-year-old boy was allegedly beheaded over a long-standing land dispute. Four people in this connection were arrested by the Cachar Police.

The victim, identified as Debjit Ree, 8-year-old son of Dilip Ree, had been missing since noon on Sunday (August 10). His beheaded body was later recovered from a forest near his home, sparking outrage among local residents.

Cachar Police launched an intensive investigation and on Monday evening (August 11) detained four suspects, Jayprakash Keot, Amit Kumar, Ratan Bauri, and Ronju Bauri, allegedly linked to the crime. According to officials, the accused had an ongoing dispute with the victim’s father, which had led to the murder.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday evening, Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta said, “We are investigating the matter, and last evening an intense operation was conducted where we arrested the three prime accused involved in this, which includes a woman. Preliminary investigation suggests they are the main suspects. It is an extremely unfortunate incident. We are sure to arrest any other individuals if involved in this by tomorrow (Wednesday).”

The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured further arrests if more suspects are identified.
