Degree college to be set up at Bazaricherra, foundation stone in March
A degree college is going to be set up at Bazaricherra in Karimganj district soon.
According to sources, the site has already been selected at Bazaricherra and the work regarding land allotment for the project has been completed. Bazaricherra falls under Patharkandi constituency, around 102km from Silchar.
Meanwhile, the news has started making the rounds and brought delight to the residents of Bazaricherra. Praises are being showered from various quarters on Patharkandi legislator Krishnendu Paul for his contribution towards the development of the area and fulfilling one of the long-pending demands of local residents.
Sources said Paul had been pushing for establishment of a college at Bazaricherra and was in regular touch with the government over the past many months in this regard. The authorities concerned initiated the process by issuing an order following which a meeting was held in the month of October last year.
Recently, a team including the Patharkandi circle officer and some officials of the authority concerned finalised a site for the college at Bazaricherra. The area is spread over 31 bighas. A report was also sent to the authority concerned, sources said.
Krishnendu Paul has confirmed this news and said the foundation stone for the project will be laid in March if everything goes as per plan. The academic institution is going to really helpful for the students of Bazaricherra and other nearby areas, he said.
Apart from hailing Paul, locals also slammed the previous Congress government for allegedly depriving the residents of Bazaricherra of progress and development.
One of the residents said the Congress, despite being in power for a long time, did not take necessary steps to fulfill the demand of an educational institution in the area for which students suffered for several years.
