In this nation-wide survey which was conducted between 4th January to 4th February 2019, four cities of Assam also took part in which Guwahati Secured 303 rank (state rank 1), Nagaon 370 (state rank 2), Dibrugarh 415(state rank 3) and Silchar 423(state rank 4).
According to the SS2019 dashboard, the Ranking of Silchar in 2017 was 280 and in 2018 was 427, which means with respect to previous year Silchar has improved its ranking by only 4 rank in 2019. It can be mentioned here that Cachar district was recently been declared ODF district, which also had weightage in Swachh Survekshan 2019.
How the other towns of Barak Valley Performed in SS2019?
Though for these towns, there is no National ranking available, but they have been provided a state ranking. Out of the total 91 towns of Assam that took part in SS2019, Karimganj(MB) secured rank 90, Hailakandi 60, Lala (TC) 75 & Sonai (TC) 77.
Swachh Survekshan is a nation-wide survey which was first time conducted in 2016 for ranking 73 cities (Urban Local Bodies), under the ambit of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). In order to expand the coverage of cities, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairsconducted its second survey ‘Swachh Survekshan-2017’ in January-February 2017, to rank 434 cities. ‘Swachh Survekshan 2018’ saw a massive increase in both scale of survey and intensity of participation, with 4,203 cities covered in last year’s survey. Swachh Survekshan 2019 has scaled even greater heights, covering 4,237 cities, and that too, in a record time of 28 days, in a completely paperless, digital format for data collection.
