Media certification and monitoring committee formed to keep eye on print & electronic media

Following directions from the Election Commission of India, Cachar District Administration has formed a media certification and monitoring committee, MCMC on Tuesday to keep a hawk eye on the coverage of news related to forthcoming election by both print and electronic media.
The meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner witnessed the presence of officials and media professionals including ADC Rajib Roy, Election officer Sudip Nath, District Media Expert NRHM Suman Choudhury, veteran journalist Jyoti Lal Choudhury and Ritesh Pathak, news in-charge at All India Radio Silchar.
In the meeting, threadbare discussion was done on the pre certification of political advertisements on electronic media including social media and keeping close eye on the issue of paid news. Also the meeting dwelled upon the plausible instances of violation of the rules defined by the ECI with respect to media establishments. The members of the MCMC shall examine advertisements keeping in mind the basic principles of MCC with special eye on criticism of other nations, attack on religious communities,incitement of violence, anything obscene or defamatory, anything amounting to contempt of court,aspersion against the integrity of the President and the Judiciary,anything affecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the nation and any criticism by name of any person.
The Deputy Commissioner has urged upon the stakeholders to adhere to the rules in the interest of smooth conduct of the polls on April 18.
