Country will be ‘finished’ if Modi becomes PM again: Sidhu in Silchar

Former cricketer and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Friday that the Narendra Modi government has looted the common masses in the past years and the country will be totally finished if Modi becomes the Prime Minister once again.

Sidhu, who visited Silchar to campaign for Silchar Congress candidate Sushmita Dev and addressed a gathering at a ground at Itkhola in Silchar this afternoon said the Modi government has looted the masses in the past five years and helped industrialists like Ambani to increase their wealth. The country will be finished if Modi becomes the Prime Minister again, he said.

Around 900-1000 people participated in the rally. Slogans like “Gali Gali Mein Shor Hain, Chowkidar Chor Hain” and “Agla Pradhan Mantri Kaisa Ho, Rahul Gandhi Jaisa Ho” were raised.

He said Modi had promised before the last Lok Sabha elections that each and every citizen of the country will get Rs. 15 lakh in their bank accounts and two crore jobs will be given every year if the BJP came to power, but those were nothing but “fake promises”, he said.

He said the country would witness a “new dawn” soon and urged the common masses to support Sushmita in the upcoming election.

Mahila Congress president and Silchar Congress candidate Sushmita Dev said Modi had given assurances of “acche din” and promised that his government would prevent hike in prices of commodities, provide jobs and exterminate corruption, nothing has happened in reality.

The Prime Minister had also promised that the Cachar Paper Mill will be revived and detention camps will be demolished, but the government forgot its promises post polls. The number of detention camps has increased after the BJP came to power, she said.

Congress leader and daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee – Sharmistha Mukherjee criticised the Modi government on issues like demonetisation and fail0ure to revive the non-functional paper mills in Assam.

Demonetisation had hit the common masses hard, she said. Further, she slammed the government for not fulfilling its promise of reviving the two paper mills which have been in a non-functional condition for years.

Congress leaders including former minister Ajit Singh, former MLAs Rumi Nath, Anamul Haque and district president Pradip Dey were also present.
