Dolchut Fest kickstarts with bands and singers’ acts, kawali style program to be the highlight today

Rainy season and music have always been a deadly combination. Similarly, Dolchut and rain share a great bond of love. The fest of Dolchut began yesterday with a bang at Goldighi Mall. In spite of heavy showers in the evening, the program premises got filled up with music lovers at the right time. The event began exactly at 6:30 pm. Guess, not even the natural calamities were able to be the barrier. There was actually a shortage of seats at the venue. While youngsters dominated as the audience, people from all age groups crowded to enjoy the musical evening.

The carnival was inaugurated by Sujit Das, one of the well-known singers in the valley. He is quite popular among netizens for his close to similar voice with Kishore Kumar. Basking on the resemblance, Sujit presented the iconic singer’s hit numbers on the stage. Other bands like Sopnobondor and Folkira and few individuals like Hrijoy Kanungo also took to the stage to enthrall the audience.

As much as the start was entertaining, the climax of the show too was a dhamakedar one. Like every year, a group of youngsters was seen matching steps to some peppy dance numbers. The organisers had even arranged for a round of “Antakshari”. The first day of carnival ended with the song ‘Bokul Ful’.

The next phase of the carnival is today (June 21) on the occasion of World Music Day. The main attraction in the evening’s program will be “Mehfil-a-gaan”. The team has also assured that it would be a first-of-a-kind event in Barak Valley with the setting of Kawali. Moreover, there will be a chorus performance and an instrumental Jugalbandi too. The event has been designed in a unique way this year and the one to miss it will also miss the chance to witness the sparkling talents of our Valley.
