Assam Police delivers medicine in Maibang after worried daughter reached out from Silchar
Times they are the most challenging now. The country is in the middle of a lockdown, parents are separated from their daughter, residents are stranded miles away from their home and everyone is just surviving on essentials. One of the essential commodities is medicine and Silchar resident, an entrepreneur, Nivedita Dey was struggling to get it delivered to her parents living 140 kilometers away from her in Maibang.
Dey says her friend searched the whole of Haflong but could not find the meds in any of the chemists there. She used her resources and checked in nearby areas like Lumding, Hojai but was disappointed as the medicines weren’t available there either. Her worried struggle continued for around 10 days while on the other hand, her parents kept running out of stock. “I tried my best, contacted #CEM of #AutonomousCouncil #memberofautonomouscouncil but couldn’t find the way to deliver medicines,” she recalls.
On April 16, when she ran out of options she took the microblogging platform Twitter and posted a tweet tagging Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Police. “Within an hour I got a call from the office of superintendent of Police, Cachar and they asked for details. On April 17, I got a message from SP Cachar, Manabendra Dev Ray on WhatsApp stating that someone will pick the medicines from my home and at around 3:00 PM they collected it,” says Dey.
While she was relieved that the medicine got picked up, she was stressed about the doorstep delivery in Maibang. “I thought they may need at least a day or two to deliver the meds,” she asserts. However, she got pleasantly surprised. “I received a phone call from my mother as it just past midnight (12.50 AM) and she said medicines were handed over to her by Maibang Police. My reaction was just WOW,” Dey adds.
She expressed her gratitude towards Cachar SP, Manavendra Dev Ray and his counterpart in Dima Hasao. By picking up the medicine from Silchar and delivering doorsteps at Maibang, Assam police has not only exhibited a collective approach and efficiency but also brought smiles in the face of a worried daughter.
