Cachar District Congress lodges FIR against Arnab Goswami for his comments on Sonia Gandhi

Journalist and one of the owners of Republic Media Group which operates news channels Republic TV and Republic Bharat Arnab Goswami is making headlines for the last couple of days. He uploaded a video alleging that Youth Congress cadres attacked him and his wife while they were on their way back home from the studio. The attack on the journalist has been condemned by the Editor’s Guild, Press Council of India, and many other associations and individuals.

However, today the Cachar Congress Committee filed an FIR against Arnab Goswami. The complaint lodged alleges that Goswami during his show made certain remarks which have hurt the Congress rank and is “also a case of spreading communal hatred at a time when the nation is fighting the menace of Covid19 pandemic.”

“Humble submission is that Mr. Arnab Goswami, CEO and editor in chief of Republic TV while anchoring his talk show, Puchta Bharat on Republic TV on April 21, 2020, baselessly alleged that Sonia Gandhi the President of Indian National Congress is responsible for the mob lynching incident which took place in Palghar Maharashtra,” states the complaint.

It is worth mentioning here that two monks and their driver were lynched to death by a mob in Palghar, Maharashtra. The state government has arrested more than 100 individuals in connection with this lynching.

Cachar District Congress’ complaint reads, “Arnab Goswami further alleged that Mrs. Gandhi is happy with the mob lynching incident and she will send reports of the said incident to Italy mentioning that I have got the Hindu Saints killed in a state where we have formed the government.”

Abhijit Paul, Secretary, District Congress lodged the complaint at Silchar Sadar Police Station. He wrote in his complaint, “Wrong and biased reporting has not only hurt the Congress rank including the undersigned but it is also one of the cases of spreading communal hatred at a time when the nation is cohesively fighting the winner of the COVID-19. It clearly falls within the ambit of section 153(A) 153 (B) 295 (A) and 503 (2) of the IPC. Therefore pray to investigate the matter and take necessary action in this regard as per law.”
