“Green zone does not mean the end of lockdown in Cachar,” district administration

Recently the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that all the districts of Barak Valley are in Green Zone, which means least vulnerable to the COVID19 outbreak. This announcement got widely circulated in the district. Cachar district administration has made it clear that ‘Green zone’ does not mean the end of lockdown in the district.

Additional deputy commissioner of Cachar, Sumit Sattavan informed that strict actions will be taken against those who breach lockdown protocols. “Considering the vulnerability, the administration will provide certain relaxations and those will be informed through official orders. There will be certain guidelines that the residents will need to follow. So, there is no reason to believe that since Cachar is in Green Zone all restrictions are lifted,” said Sattavan.

The ADC informed that as per government data, more than 1500 residents have recently returned from other districts to Cachar. In the future, more people will enter the district and the migration period will be extremely sensitive. “We don’t know these people well, their medical history, travel history. Though we have screened them before allowing a travel pass yet it remains vulnerable. So, we have asked them to remain under home quarantine for 14 days,” added ADC.

The ADC informed that about 21,000 people who are currently outside Assam have registered to return back to the district. Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced yesterday that from today onwards Assam’s border will remain for residents of the state to return from Northeastern states. Going forward, the minister said residents will be brought back from other states too. Meanwhile, if someone wants to return using private vehicles or personal arrangements, they can seek passes by sending an email to  assamtransportrelief@gmail.com.
