Cachar: 56 Positive so far on Sunday; “Delay in transfer due to lack of Ambulance,” administration
56 Individuals have tested positive for COVID19 in the Cachar district so far on Sunday. There is a significant rise in the number of COVID positive cases with symptoms and without travel history. The district health department has appealed to the public to get themselves tested by following the protocols if they are suffering from cough, cold, fever or breathlessness. However, the health department requested the public to avoid panicking.
Media Expert, District Health Department, Suman Choudhury who is also responsible for transferring COVID positive patients via ambulance to COVID Care Centres said, “Because of the rapid rise in the number of COVID positive cases, we are having difficulties in arranging ambulances. Apart from that, several ambulance drivers and staff have also tested positive.”
This statement from Choudhury comes a day after the administration was heavily criticised for the delay in the transfer of COVID patients. “The delay is not intentional, it is due to lack of resources,” said Choudhury.
The health department informed that till August 1, 2020, 1754 individuals have tested positive for COVID19 in Cachar, and out of them, 1058 have been discharged after recovery. Among 1754 to test positive for COVID19 there are 425 defense personnel.
Meanwhile, sharing details about the Silchar Medical College and Hospital Dr. Prasenjit Ghose informed that currently there are 11 patients in the COVID ICU and two are under ventilator.
He has also informed that Karimganj resident, Mridula Ghosh has succumbed at SMCH. She was admitted to the COVID ICU and had undergone a heart transplant a few years back. The death audit board has declared it to be a COVID death.
