Sept 9 COVID update: 102 Positive in Cachar, 35 in Karimganj and Hailakandi 23; No death in SMCH, 28 critical
The shortage of beds in the ICU of the COVID ward at Silchar Medical College and Hospital is working as an obstacle for the treating doctors. The number of critical COVID positive patients have seen a significant increase while the number of beds in the ICU remains at 16. Due to this, a number of critical patients are kept in the ward.
Vice-principal of SMCH, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that 28 patients are in critical condition while 58 under oxygen support. However, “16 patients are in ICU and 4 have been placed under ventilator,” informed Dr. Gupta. The ICU expansion is in the process but it is yet to be ready. SMCH caters to symptomatic patients and that is why the expansion of ICU is critical.
Dr. Gupta also shared that there was no death in the COVID wards in the last 24 hours. 20 patients have been discharged after they recovered from the infection while 22 took admission taking the total active cases to 198.
The district health department informed that 102 individuals tested positive in Cachar on Wednesday. Of them, 81 tested positive while using the Rapid Antigen Test Kit. Total 1007 samples were tested using RAT kits.
