BJP’s mass procession against “Pakistan Zindabad” slogan to counter ACKHSA’s Bandh tomorrow
Cachar BJP has already announced that it opposes All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association’s call for a strike. ACKHSA has called for a 12-hour strike in all three districts in Barak Valley which will kickstart tomorrow at 5:00 am and continue till 5:00 pm in the evening.
ACKHSA has called for the strike as a mark of protest against the aggression of Mizo forces inside Assam’s territory. According to them, the Mizo miscreants have tortured the residents of Assam and the state government has done very little to support them. The strike has been supported by Congress, the Hmar association, and few other outfits in the district.
The party that forms the government in Assam, has opposed the strike. “We believe the government of Assam and the government of India is jointly leaving no stones unturned to sort this issue. At such a juncture, we find this strike as a meaningless attempt to derail the proceedings,” said Kaushik Rai, president of Cachar District BJP.
However, district BJP has planned a massive event that is likely to counter any picketing. “The way Pakistan Zindabad slogans were raised in Silchar Airport to welcome Badaruddin Ajmal in the state, is a matter of concern. We strongly condemn the anti-national activities,” said Rai.
Adding, “We will launch a massive protest-march at 11:30 am from our party office.” Rai said that these are not stray incidences but categorically interventional. “What is the message they are trying to give? First Pakistan Zindabad slogans and then Badaruddin Ajmal doing a meeting in Rajiv Bhavan which we all know is a Congress Office. Though the alliance has not been announced yet, it is clear that they are planning for the election together. It is for Congress to answer, how do they stitch an alliance with a political party whose supporters raise Pakistan Zindabad slogans,” said Rai.
Meanwhile, AIUDF said that the slogan raised was Aziz Khan Zindabad and not Pakistan Zindabad. “Himanta Biswa Sarma has used rhyming words and peddled the wrong theory. He owns a media channel that carried the video as a piece of news claiming that Pakistan Zindabad slogan has been raised in Silchar. We demand a high-level enquiry of the matter and ensure full cooperation to the investigating officer,” said national general secretary of AIUDF, Aminul Islam.
On the other hand, with a strike and political rally scheduled on the same day, the district administration has beefed up security measures in the district. The administration has deputed Executive Magistrates to look after specific areas. In an order issued to this effect on Friday, the administration has deputed Circle officer, Sadar, Silchar and Executive Magistrate, Cachar, D.Pathak to look after DC’S office and court compound area, Silchar.
