Construction work of new District library begins; Dilip Paul blames case filed by “Narrow Minded” official for the delay
The long-standing District Library Auditorium used to be the centre of most cultural events happening in Silchar for a long time. Recently, it was demolished to make way for its renovation on a larger scale. For that purpose, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul on Thursday started off the construction work of the new building of the District Library Auditorium with Bastu Puja. A total of 29 crores 43 lakh has been allocated for this mega project.
The six-storey district library building auditorium when completed will be the best in the entire state. Madhumita Dey, the Executive Architect of the building construction branch of the Public Works Department, said that there will be 761 pilings and 83 pillars by digging the soil. The building will be on top of these huge pillars. Even if there is an earthquake on the Richter scale of 8, nothing will happen to this building. Hence, it’s absolutely earthquake-proof. This state-of-the-art auditorium is being built on about four and a half bighas of land.
There will be a parking lot on the ground floor, a gallery and a stage on the first floor above it. Then a gallery museum on the second floor. On the third floor will be a gallery, and on the fourth floor, a gallery conference hall and a VIP lounge. The fifth and sixth floor will be dedicated to a movie theatre. All in all, this modern auditorium has everything it needs to have.
MLA Dilip Kumar Paul took part in the Bastu Puja. After the puja, he said that after overcoming many obstacles, the work is finally going at a brisk pace. In his words, the work was delayed for almost two months due to a case filed by a ‘narrow-minded corrupt library official’. On top of that, the lockdown was another reason for it getting delayed. The major thing is that the work has finally started. The old building of the district library has been demolished and the ground has been levelled. The ground is being dug for the installation of piles. Ganapati Construction of Guwahati has been commissioned for the construction work of this building.
Simply put, a new horizon of cultural activities of Silchar will be witnessed once the construction work of this building is completed. At least there will be no lack of cultural infrastructure in this city. A cultural hub like Silchar was always in dire need of such a modern multi-faceted library, the dream of which is going to be achieved soon. MLA Dilip Paul is also glad at the start of this dream project. He doesn’t want any drawbacks in the work. So new drawings have been made instead of the old drawings. The whole thing will take two more years to complete. If one year had not been wasted due to various issues, the work would have been completed by next year. “I feel blessed to be able to work on my dream project”, said the MLA after the Bastu puja.
