BJP supporters burn effigies of party leaders in Karimganj; “Manash Das hai hai slogan echoes”
Section of BJP supporters launched massive demonstration right outside party’s office in Karimganj. They have burnt effigies of the party’s state general secretary and Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy. This started after party’s general secretary Arun Singh announced the names of candidates BJP will field in the upcoming elections.
In North Karimganj, Dr. Manash Das’ name was announced and that has irked Mishon Ranjan Das loyalists. MLA in 1991, 2000, 2001, 2006 Mishon Ranjan Das is a party veteran. He is recognised as the man who established BJP as a force to reckon with in Karimganj. However, he was defeated heavily by Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha in 2011 and 2016. It is clear that the party has snubbed him fearing a hattrick of defeat.
But the selection of Dr. Manash Das is what has irked the local party supporters. One of the protesters said, “It is Rajdeep Roy’s agenda against Mishon Ranjan Das which is why he has not got the ticket to contest. He has conspired to outcast Mishon Ranjan Das in this election.”
Another party-worker, said, “We won’t accept the candidature of Dr. Manash Das, won’t even allow him to enter the party office.” Explaining the problem with Manash Das he said, “Manash Das is associated with rival political parties. He has openly opposed BJP and the party’s ideology in the past. Now he has switched sides and got the ticket. Why should one loyal party worker lose an opportunity to a migrator? Let him work for the party and then give him the ticket.”
The workers had gathered in large numbers and they said that they will vote for NOTA but not for Dr. Manash Das.
Meanwhile, though Congress is yet to declare its list of candidates, North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha already announced on Social Media that he is going to file his nomination and appealed for support from the voters of his constituency.
On the other hand, popular activist and social worker, Sujan Deb Roy has also announced that he will submit his nomination and contest the upcoming election.
