May 31 Covid Update: 809 positive in Barak Valley; Cachar reports 528 highest in Assam; 7 dead
After a slight drop, the number of Covid positive cases is on the rise once again. 809 individuals have tested positive in the three districts of Barak Valley with Cachar leading the tally. The district reported 528 cases higher than any other district in Assam.
The district health department informed that 7858 samples were tested using the Rapid Antigen Test kit and out of them, 419 samples tested positive. 109 samples tested positive on RT-PCR. As many as seven individuals have been declared dead and out of them, one is from Green Heals Hospital, two are from Cachar Cancer Hospital and four from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Currently, there are 3,304 active cases in Cachar district. 2,783 patients are in home isolation which means there are 521 individuals admitted to various COVID hospitals and Care Centres.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that there are 301 patients admitted to the COVID wards of the hospital. This is the all-time highest number of COVID patients under treatment. 95 patients are in ICU which means there are only five ICU beds left at the hospital. 30 patients are on ventilator and 168 patients are on oxygen support. 51 individuals have been admitted to the SMCH in the last 24 hours (ending 5:00 pm May 31). 29 patients got discharged from the Hospital.
Three patients have been declared dead in the SMCH’s medical bulletin released at 5:00 pm on May 31. Taj Uddin Laskar a 43-year-old Katigorah Part III, Cachar resident was admitted on May 28 and breathed his last on May 30 at 7:30 pm. Babul Ghosh a 70-year-old resident from Das Colony Silchar was admitted at SMCH on May 29 and breathed his last at 1:20 am on May 31. Amalendu Guha from Nagnaha lane was rushed to SMCH on May 31. The 78-year-old lost his life on the same day at 7:05 am.
Karimganj registered 149 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 7,613. Of the 149 active cases detected on Monday, 129 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 20 under RT-PCR.
The district has currently 1,141 active COVID-19 cases while 83 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday.
In the Hailakandi district, 133 patients tested positive on Monday taking the number of active cases to 1437.
Overall, in Barak Valley, there are 5,882 active cases while the total number of active cases in Assam is 42,448. This means 13.8% of the total active cases in Assam are from Barak Valley. For the entire population of 40 lakh, there is one government hospital with capabilities of treating symptomatic patients.
