The Katigorah Police has managed to recover 25 buffaloes and two lorries while miscreants were trying to smuggle them to Bangladesh. Two individuals have been arrested, one driver and another co-driver, driving one of the lorries carrying the oxen. Two 12-wheeler lorries carrying 25 buffaloes in total were trying to transport them from the Tarinipur area of Katigorah to Dona in Meghalaya were apprehended in Katigorah’s Lakhipur area by the police.

The driver and co-driver of one lorry were apprehended by the police but the driver and co-driver of the other lorry managed to escape. It has been known that the two trucks, one carrying 13 buffaloes in a 12-wheeler lorry (NL 01A-E 4492), and 12 buffaloes in another vehicle (AS 01 DD 1092) were supposed to leave for Meghalaya from Tarinipur of East Katigorah.

Based on this intel, the Katigorah Police prepared themselves to trap those two lorries at the National Highway no. 6 in the Lakhipur area adjacent to Kalain. After managing to successfully apprehend the lorry carrying 12 buffaloes, they were brought to the Katigorah Police station. The other lorry carrying 13 buffaloes was already apprehended at the Tarinipur area itself and brought to the Katigorah Police station.

 

 

Detained truck driver Saleh Ahmed and co-driver Sadiq Ahmed said that their homes were in the Gumra area of ​​West Katigorah. They were supposed to take the captured buffaloes from Tarinipur to Dona in Meghalaya. And from there the buffaloes are transported to Bangladesh.

Katigorah Police OC, Manoj Narzary, said “The incident happened around 5 pm yesterday. A case has been registered against the detained two for smuggling buffaloes across the state. The other two culprits, one driver and the other co-driver of the second lorry managed to escape and both the lorries and the buffaloes are currently under the custody of Katigorah Police. Meanwhile, the search for the other two is still on and further investigation is going on”.
