Cases of daylight robbery have seen a steep rise in Barak Valley for the last couple of years. Common people taking cash to someplace else get mugged on their way as they helplessly scream for help. Today, in another such instance in Karimganj, a 52-year old woman was mugged and robbed of 40,000 rupees in cash while she was boarding an e-rickshaw.

The incident happened at Karimganj near the State Bank of India, Bazaar branch at around 1 pm today when Hena Malakar, a resident of the Nilmoni road, withdrew some cash from the bank and was on her way back home. “I withdrew Rs 40,000 cash and was about to board an e-rickshaw when two unknown people snatched my bag from behind and escaped before I could even resist. I tried screaming for help, but it all happened so fast that when I realized, the culprits had already fled the scene by then”, said Hena Malakar who is a fourth-grade employee at the nearby Nilmoni Higher Secondary School.

In this regard, an FIR has been filed at the Karimganj Police station, and further action is awaiting.
