Udharbond School van accident update: One kid still admitted to SMCH but stable, rest all discharged

Most in Barak Valley were praying for the well-being of the 14 children who met with an accident on their way to school. Yesterday, a school van carrying 14 students rolled into a ditch after it encountered a steering failure. While eight students were discharged after primary treatment at Udharbond Primary Health Care, six were referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for critical care.

Prayers have worked, the vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that all kids are safe and out of danger. Five of the six brought to Silchar Medical College and Hospital have been discharged and only one student is still admitted.

“Eight-year-old Debashish Das has a wound on his chest spread across 2 cm by 2 cm and he was brought to the Surgery ward of SMCH. CT Scan of the brain, chest X-ray, ultrasonography abdomen were done. The patient is stable and kept under observation at the make surgery unit. If needed, we will perform an HRCT to diagnose further,” informed Dr Bhaskar Gupta.

It is worth mentioning here that students had boarded the van at Durgabari, Dudhpati and were on their way to Rongpur Red Rose academy school. The locals alleged that the van did not have the capacity to ply with 14 passengers. They alleged that the van wasn’t even maintained properly and that is why it encountered a steering failure due to which the driver could not turn the vehicle to keep it on road.
