From doorstep sample collection to same day reporting; Green Heals announces RT-PCR lab with promises: “From testing to treatment,” says Rudra Narayan Gupta

Green Heals Hospital Silchar was mong the first private nursing homes in Barak Valley to treat patients infected with the virus of SARS-CoV-2 or as commonly called COVID-19. Starting from June 2020, the hospital has been treating COVID positive patients in their COVID-Ward and now they’ve added a fully-equipped modern COVID testing facility on real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction or RT-PCR testing laboratory. From now onwards, along with Rapid Antigen Test or RAT, RT-PCR testing can also be done at Green Heals Hospital.

On 14th January 2022, the modern RT-PCR lab was inaugurated by Swami Gandhishananda Ji of Ramkrishna Mission Sevashram and Dr. Giridhar Kar, in a closed-door ceremony. The hospital located in Meherpur is promising to declare the RT-PCR result and report within 8 to 12 hours of the test.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Rudra Narayan Gupta, the director of Green Heals Hospital has expressed his excitement on this achievement, “For RT-PCR testing to be done in our lab we needed several accreditation, before that whenever we had to do follow-up RT-PCR of our patients undergoing COVID treatment, we had to outsource these tests to other labs but now we’ve got all the accreditation that were required. ICMR approval is required for setting up such a lab, but the bigger challenge is NABL accreditation. Now NABL accreditation, one whole thesis is required on a particular subject. We are among the few private labs in Assam to choose SARS-CoV-2 as the subject of study for this accreditation.” Now the hospital can not only treat COVID patients, but also study the evolving and fast spreading virus.

“The machine that we’re using for testing samples, is fully equipped with modern state of the art techniques used in the international standards. We’re also trying to get a kit to identify the probable variant of COVID virus a patient has been infected with. Sample collection from door-step and one day test result is of course there but for me the most important factor here is that Green Heals as a hospital has entered the list of fully equipped COVID Care Facilities, from testing to treatment,” Gupta further added.

He also added that, “Starting from the time of the first wave of the pandemic, we’ve successfully used Remdisivir and other drugs that were prescribed by ICMR and MoHFW guidelines, other than that we also had expertise in monoclonal antibodies usage and treatment. Our vision is not just COVID treatment for the namesake but to build an exclusive COVID treatment centre and become a pioneer in this field of treatment and research as well.”

Dr. Saumenda Bhattacharjee who is the in-charge and Molecular Lab director of the hospital has added that, “Our lab stands unique on the point that our assessment and area of study was SARS-CoV-2, a much difficult when it comes to molecular study and that is where our strong point lies. Our performance was really well during the assessment and NABL has also concluded that our lab is one of a kind in the North-East region.”

Green Heals Hospital is equipped with 20 Ventilators along with Oxygen Support and other required facilities for the treatment of COVID patients.
