Cash snatchers on motorcycle active again; 1.5 lakh snatched from a woman outside SBI Silchar Main Branch

One after another snatching incident is being orchestrated at the heart of the town. It was only last month when a couple of snatchers snatched Rs 3 lakh from a woman moments after she had withdrawn the cash from the bank. Snatched spotted her right outside the bank and took the money away leaving her rolling in the middle of the road.

Today, exactly the same bank, exactly the same road, and the miscreants snatched cash from another lady. It is like the same deal, just a  different day. Today afternoon, Chengcoorie Road resident Sumati Singha went to the State Bank Of India Main Branch to withdraw Rs 1.5 lakh. After withdrawing the cash, she took a rickshaw to go to a nearby medical store. While she was on her way, right outside the deputy commissioner’s bungalow, two miscreants riding on a black motorcycle chased her down and rushed away after snatching her bag.

Dejected by the incident, Sumati Singha broke into tears. She, along with the other local residents present on the spot was shocked at the audacity of the miscreants as they attacked her right outside the bungalow of deputy commissioner, one of the most secured zones in the town.

Sumati Singha identified herself as the wife of Lalit Mohan Singha, a retired principal of Udarbond DNA School. She herself is a teacher by profession and said, “I had withdrawn the money as me and my husband are going to New Delhi for his treatment. I had my car parked outside the bank but I took the Rickshaw as I wanted to go to Bramhan Barrier Medical Store. Never expected someone to chase me down and snatch my bag. I have my phone inside the bag and so, I have lost all my contacts along with the money,” she cried.

A complaint has been registered at Tarapur Town Police Outpost. What remains a mystery is why the Police ignore this repeated act of snatching in the heart of the town that too in broad daylight. Locals even point fingers at the bank and bankers as, without information from inside, the snatchers would not know the exact identity of the target.

The ball now is in Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur’s court. How she and her Police formation reacts to this repeated act of snatching is something that remains to be seen.
