Police escorts Altaf, Zakir to their respective residences, raids to seize documents

The three-day Police remand for Altaf Hussain and Zakir Talukdar ends on February 23. Before they are produced before the judge at court once again, the Cachar Police escorted both of them to their respective residences.

First, the Police officials from Rangirkhari Police Station went to Silchar Sadar Police Station and escorted handcuffed Zakir Talukdar. The motorcade led them to Talukdar’s house in Mouthpara and the Police continued a raid for more than an hour. The officials refused to comment on the raid as it was a part of the ongoing investigation. However, Police sources informed that several documents that are relevant to the investigation has been seized from Zakir Talukdar’s house.

The same process was followed for Altaf Hussain too. The Police officials from Rangirkhari Police Station took his custody from Silchar Sadar and took him to his house adjacent to Zakir Talukdar’s. In his presence, the Police raided his house for about 90 minutes. From there too, they seized documents.

Both of them are kept in Silchar Sadar Police Station and there are rumours that Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur has issued strict instructions to the OC of Silchar Sadar to treat both Altaf Hussain and Zakir Talukdar just like other inmates.

Today, both of them will be produced before the judge and the court will decide further course of action. There are indications that the Guwahati Police might take custody of both of them as they did for Kartik Paul and Dipankar Deb.

On the other hand, Abu(b) Mazumdar is still absconding. Some say he is in Mizoram while there are rumours that he is in Bangladesh or Indonesia, but where is Abub Mazumdar is something that is still unknown. Mazumdar has been identified as one of the masterminds of the nexus that transported areca nuts smuggled from Myanmar or Indonesia through Cachar to various parts of the country bypassing the tax system. Due to this, the Assam and Central governments suffered losses worth crores.
