Police opens fire in Hailakandi to stop drug dealer from escaping; “He was shot at non vital part,” SP
In another significant development in the war against drugs, the Hailakandi police have injured a drug dealer while he was trying to escape police custody at Paikan area of Hailakandi on Wednesday, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the drug dealer red-handed in Hailakandi Lala road on Tuesday, while trying to make a deal of narcotics. He has been identified as Salimuddin Laskar alias Monai. Police informed that 10 vials of drugs were recovered from his possession.
“He was in our radar for long. We wanted to know from where he gets so much of supply as he was arrested by police earlier too. He informed us of two more people, Atabur and Nizam of Paikan area from where he brings the narcotics” Hailakandi SP Gaurav Upadhyay said to this website.
SP mentioned that based on Monai’s revelation, police team decided to raid the said premise and took Salimuddin along with them to lead the road. But the accused mislead the police party and tried to escape by snatching the service pistol of Hailakandi OC.
The incident occurred on intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The senior police official informed that police resorted to control firing at his legs to get control over him. “To apprehend him and also to maintain safety of our team, he was shot at his non vital part,” Upadhyay said.
The drug dealer was admitted at SK Roy civil hospital and later referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
