
New born girl abandoned again in Silchar, handed over to the Nivedita Nari Sangstha
Silchar has witnessed yet another evil case of an abandoned newborn, this morning. This time again, a girl child was spotted by the locals of Shivalik Park, Meherpur. This abandoned child was spotted in a very terrible condition and hence the locals informed the Police about this case.
Rangirkhari Police rushed to the spot along with female constables to recover the child and investigate the situation. The Police personnel from Rangirkhari Town Outpost handed over the newborn to Childline Silchar 1098. Along with the team of experts from Childline, the baby was taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a preliminary medical examination. After heat treatment and cleaning, the shelter home was informed about this case. The condition of this newborn was severe as even the umbilical cord of the girl child was attached.
The girl child was handed over to the Nivedita Nari Sangstha, a shelter home in Silchar. Nivedita Nari Sangstha will take care of the baby till the parents are found and the investigation is completed.
It is worth mentioning here that, these cases of abandoned children are getting frequent here, speaking with Barak Bulletin correspondent, an officer of the Childline, Debashis Dey said, “Whenever we get such cases, Childline leaves no stones unturned for the protection and care of the child. We gave preliminary treatment to the child at SMCH and later handed her over to the Shelter Home of Nivedita Nari Sangstha”.
Talking about the increasing number of cases of abandoned children in Silchar, he said, “Many a time, the children are stolen from their homes or hospitals and later abandoned. In any case of this abandonment, we send the child to the Child Care Institutions and with the order of the Child Welfare Committee. The abandoned child is kept here for 60 days as a temporary shelter. The investigation goes on in the meantime to search for the parents and the reason behind the abandonment. After 60 days, if the parents are not found, the child gets listed for adoption”. On behalf of Childline Silchar, Debashis Dey, Ratnadeep Deb and Shilpi Das were present, who managed this case.
This is the third such case reported this year. The first was reported in January, the second in February and today, in the third month of the year, the third such case was reported. Last month on February 18, an abandoned child was recovered from Link Road, who suffered the cold temperatures of the night and later succumbed to pneumonia.
