NIA detains Manoj Orang in Udharbond; “Akash Orang and Kanchan Da attended my wedding,” he says

Young boy, Manoj Orang had his house raided by the INA officials yesterday. Today, he was summoned at the Udharbond Police Station by the INA officials for interrogation. The officials found out that he is closely associated with Akash Orang and Arun Bhattachary alias ‘Kanchan Da’. Both of them are already behind bars and the NIA is continuing its investigation to unearth the racket that is spreading Maoism in the Northeast.

Yesterday, among many other places, the INA officials also raided the residence of Manoj Orang in Sukha Cherra Udharbond. Today, he was interrogated for a couple of hours and then released. The NIA officials asked Manoj to explain the presence of Kanchan Da and Akash Orang at a function in his house.

“I know Akash Orang and he was invited to a wedding at our house. Along with him, another old man attended the function. We didn’t know who the old man was and never bothered to ask. This is what I told the NIA officials,” said Manoj Orang.

Manoj Orang was released after the interrogation, however, the NIA officials seized his mobile phone. “I responded to all the questions the NIA officials asked me and after that, they allowed me to leave the Police Station. However, they took my mobile phone for further investigation.”

Akash Orang of Kalain area was in charge of the State recruitment drive and according to the NIA, several young individuals were roped in by Kanchan Da and group to spread the Maoist movement in the Northeastern Region. Yesterday, Reema Orang alias Saraswati was arrested by NIA from Dibrugarh. Saraswati is a resident of Cachar district’s Joypur area. Before that, Kanchan Da and Akash Orang were also arrested from Cachar district.
