Woman found dead in Silchar, parents allege husband, in-laws murdered her for dowry

A twenty-year-old woman has been allegedly  killed for dowry in Panchghori village in Silchar Meherpur area. The incident happened on May 23. It is informed that Bappi Begum, wife of Akhtar Hussain Laskar, was tortured to death by her in laws. They then took her senseless body to Silchar Medical College and ran away from there.

Bappi’s mother Zahirul Haque Laskar lodged a complaint in Silchar Police Station against Bappi’s husband and her in laws. In her complaint, Zahirul alleged that, Bappi got married to Akhtar Hussain in 2020, and since then her in-laws have been demanding an amount of Rs 2 lakh as dowry. She was repeatedly abused, tortured by her in-laws because of the dowry money. Zahurul informed that they paid a total of 50 thousands in two installments to Akhtar. In the mean time Akhtar and Bappi had a daughter,  who is now seven months old.

Jahirul got an anonymous call on May 23 around 11.45 pm informing her regarding daughter Bappi Begum’s death. They went to Silchar Medical College at around 3 am in the morning but could not find their their daughter and anyone from her in-laws side. Today they discovered her body in SMC morgue. Jahirul claimed that there are marks of wounds in her daughter’s body and she was murdered. Jahirul named Akhar Hussain Laskar (Bappi’s husband), Matibur Rahaman Laskar, Akbar Hussain Laskar, Zamila Begum Laskar in her complaint.
