On one side when the SDRF Jawans are clearing debris and digging out dead bodies, Water Resources employees are working long hours braving the heavy rainfall to ensure the dyke system at embankments works fine, on the other hand, there are people enjoying floods as if it is extended summer vacation. Despite repeated warnings, people continue to gather in large numbers at the banks of river to see the flooding water.

Clicking selfies is another important part of the flood tourism. Ignoring the danger the flood water can cause, male, female, youth, experienced are all seen clicking selfies at various points on the road. Some are stepping on the flood water knee-deep and clicking selfies.

Meanwhile, Cachar DC has issued an order restricting the movement of vehicular traffic within the jurisdiction of Cachar District. The order states, “In lieu of the river Barak crossing the danger level on 18th June, 2022 and in anticipation of heavy rainfall for next few days in Cachar District as per reports received from Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahäti, do hereby direct that all Educational Institutions (Govt. or Private) & Non-Essential Private Establishments of Cachar District shall remain closed for next 24 hours.”

The order adds, “Also, the plying of vehicles(two wheelers/three wheelers/four wheelers)which is causing much difficulty in rescue & relief operations in the district are hereby restricted for next 24 hours.”

This order shall be effective from 6.00 A.M of 20th June, 2022 and will remain in force for next 24 hours, informed the administration.
