ACKHSA opposes AASU, ABVP; Supports Govt’s decision to teach Math and Science in English

All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA), rose in support of the state Government’s decision today. ACKHSA has expressed their support in favour of the state Government’s decision to change the medium of instruction for mathematics and science from vernacular language to English in all the government schools of Assam.

They also spoke against All Assam Student Union (AASU) and ABVP’s opposition to this step by the government of Assam.

All Cachar -Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) central committee in a press conference called on Saturday registered their support in favour of the change in medium of instruction. On behalf of ACKHSA Rupam Nandi Purkayastha said, “It really helps the students in the future when the medium of instruction for Science and Mathematics is in English. ACKHSA is in favour of the government’s decision to impart lessons on Maths and Science in English from class 3 onwards and we believe that this will make them have a better hold on the English language. There is no point in opposing this step and those who are opposing, you must check in which schools their kids are studying”.

Speaking against the AASU and ABVP’s opposition to this decision, ACKHSA further said, “We are opposing the opposition. Those student organisations who are opposing the government’s step are against the development of the students. AASU or ABVP or any other organisation has no right to oppose this step. This is a milestone and historic decision by the government. We think that the government should implement this without further delay and there is no point of discussion with the associations and organisations”.

ACKHSA also spoke against the amalgamation and shutting down of 1710 primary schools in Assam. Nandi further said, “If I have a headache I won’t cut off my head. The problem is not with the guardians or the students, if some teachers are unable to fulfill their duties the government should take action against those teachers and not with the school. ACKHSA is again closing down schools. We request for the intervention of CM Dr Himana Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu into this. We appeal to reconsider this decision”. In Cachar 129 primary schools were shut and amalgamated due to underperformance. Similarly, 59 schools were closed in Hailakandi and 49 in Karimganj district.
