16 indie dogs recued by Police from being illegally trasnsported to Mizoram, two Mizo youth arrested
Last night in an operation led by Dholai Police, a Bolero pickup truck was apprehended. 16 indie breed dogs were found from that truck, which were being transported to Mizoram illegally. The dogs were restrained inside jute sacks and their mouth tied with rope. In that operation, two Mizo individuals have also been arrested. The operation was led by Dholai Police Station’s OC Monuj Baruah.
The two arrested individuals are from Vairengte in Mizoram.
The white Bolero truck, registered in Mizoram, was being used in force transport of the dogs. The registration number of the vehicle is MZ05A7829. The OC Dholai in this regard said, “Last night, we have intercepted a Bolero pickup vehicle near Dholai Bazar and duly checked it and rescued 16 numbers of stolen street dogs which were being carried from Silchar to Mizoram illegally”.
The OC further said, “Two persons were also apprehended. In this regard, a lawful action will be taken against the apprehended persons”. The “Transport of Animals Rules, 1978” is an act by the Central Government which for transportation of any animals state that, “A valid health certificate by a qualified veterinary surgeon to the effect that the dogs and cats are in a fit condition to travel by a rail, road, inland waterway, sea or air and are not showing any sign of infectious or contagious disease including rabies”.
