Drunk policeman in uniform filmed by college youths in Nazirpatty, slurs abuse and chases them, SP Mahatta assures appropriate action
A Cachar Police personnel was caught on camera in inebriated condition by two youths at Nazirpatty, near Nahata Point. The police staff while still in his uniform was seen losing his balance while getting on his scooty. While the youths approached him, he slurred vulgar remarks and started to chase after them. This comes just three days after Assam DGP warned to suspend any on-duty drunk police officers from the force.
The policeman, Jagat Sinha is posted in the town branch of Sadar Police Station. Last evening, while two college students were returning home on their motorbike from their private tuition, they saw this drunk policeman, who couldn’t even walk in a straight line. The young boys while filming, asked the policeman to drive carefully, he started to slur objectionable and vulgar abuses on the two.
Later, the policeman also chased after the two and tried to snatch the phone they used in filming the drunk uniformed police official. The video has gone viral on the Internet and has raised several questions about the police officials of the district. Cachar SP, Numal Mahatta while speaking to Barak Bulletin said, “I was out of station, on a call from the CM but I have received information about this. I don’t have all the details of the matter at this moment. But I’ve asked him to be present in my office, as soon as I reach Silchar, and following that we will decide what to do on the matter. Rest assured, appropriate actions will be taken against this”.
Only three days back, a Sub-Inspector from Darrang district was suspended for misbehaving with the public and a colleague in a drunk state. Following that incident, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta remarked that any police officials will be suspended if found in inebriated conditions, and will be put under suspension. Last night’s incident looks like an open challenge to the DGP’s statement and is an insult to the oath of the police. It remains to be seen what will be DGP Mahanta’s reaction to this incident. The DGP was unreachable for any comments on the matter.
