‘Party and murder of a woman’ in Silchar; Cachar Police makes 3rd arrest

On November 7, a headless dead body of woman was spotted on the road in Kathal area of Silchar. Little did the people know it will turn out to be such a brutal murder case.

Three days back, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta had informed that this wasn’t a hit and run case but a murder. The Police had arrested two individuals in connection with the murder and today, five days into the investigation, the Police managed to arrest a third individual.

“Today in persuance of the accident turned murder incident at Kathal Road, the investigation of Silchar PS Case no. 2574/22 u/s 120B/302 IPC another co-accused namely Parimal Das, aged 36 years of Kalibari Char, Silchar has been arrested from Janiganj who accompanied the previously arrested accused namely Vijay Das and Vikram Das partying with the female victim Jharna Panda at a lodge near SMCH, Ghoongur on the day of the incident prior to murder of the girl,” informed Cachar SP Numal Mahatta.

For the freshers, the woman was identified by her daughter and Police investigation revealed that the victim was in a party with the accused. On their way back, they got involved in a quarrel among themselves inside a autorickshaw. Irked during the heated quarrel, Vijay Das pushed Jharna Pandey outside the rickshaw and a truck ran over her head.

The SP, in his press statement, added, “He has been arrested on the basis of the revelations of the accused Vijay Das which again corroborated with the findings technical analysis.”

The SP also informed that the involved tipper truck that ran over Jhanrna Pandey has been tracked and kept under confiscation at the Silchar Police Station.
