54-year-old businessman kidnapped from Sonai Road at dagger point, kidnappers ask ransom of Rs 10 lakh

A 54-year-old businessman has been kidnapped at daggerpoint from the Sonai area on Saturday evening. The kidnapped businessman is a resident of Badarpur Ghat of Karimganj district. While he was travelling in his own car via Sonai Road for business-related work, he was kidnapped by some armed men and later they called his family for a ransom of 10 lakh rupees. An FIR has been lodged at the Rangirkhari Police Station and the police have started an investigation into the matter. 

According to the details mentioned in the FIR, the victim, Salim Uddin Barbhuiya was travelling via Sonai Road on Saturday evening for business-related work. He was driving his WagonR and there was no one with him in the car. While at Sonai Road, he was stopped by some unknown person who later threatened to kill him at daggerpoint. The kidnappers also allegedly used the same WagonR with registration number AS 24 6998 to kidnap him.

The kidnappers then called the elder brother of Salim and told him about the kidnap. Salim’s elder brother Nizam Uddin Barbhuiya, who registered the FIR alleged that the kidnappers had asked for a ransom of rupees 10 lakhs to be kept ready on the same night or else Salim’s dead body will be sent to them. Nizam Uddin also mentioned that the caller who claimed to be the kidnapper mentioned that, Salim has been kidnapped and taken into a godown in Vairengte in Mizoram. The FIR application written in Bangla mentioned, “this kidnapping was planned in detail”.

Nizam Uddin in the FIR wrote that their family hails from a very humble background and is in no position to arrange that kind of money in such a short time period for the ransom. The family has sought help from the Rangirkhari Police and filed the FIR on December 3. The Rangirkhari Police has launched an investigation into the matter but the question remains if the kidnapped Salim is in Vainegte, how did the WagonR pass the check gates of both Assam Police and Mizoram Police with armed persons and a kidnapped man?
