Congress to start “Hatey Hath Jodo Yatra” in Barak Valley from 28th January
This time, Congress will start “Hate Hath Jodo Yatra” in Barak Valley. The journey will take place from 28th January in Dholai near the Assam Mizoram border. This was announced by the State Congress president Bhupen Bora at a press conference in Silchar. Bora told that the journey will start from Cachar’s Dholai on 28th January and end on 10th February at Karimganj’s Malegarh located at the Indo-Bangladesh border. Members of Congress will walk a total of approximately 165 kilometres under this “Hate Hath Jodo” programme. Bora told reporters that everyday Congress workers will take part in this “Hate Hath Jodo Yatra” and walk an average of 11 kilometres per day. After the unprecedented support of the public in Upper and Lower Assam, Congress is hoping that Barak Valley public will also support the Yatra in the same way.
Speaking to reporters Bora told, “We did pada yatra from Dhubri’s Golakganj to Sadiya starting from 1st November to 15th December, covering 835 kms in 45 days. The Barak Congress leadership including Tamal Kanti Banik suggested us to conduct a similar exercise covering the 15 Assembly Constituencies of Barak Valley. Based on the advice of Executive Presidents and our party MLAs of three districts of the Valley yesterday we took the decision to conduct “Hate Hath Jodo Yatra” in Barak Valley from 28th January to 10th February. This programme will commence on 28th January from Cachar’s Dholai located near the Mizoram border. We will also invite the Congress leadership of Mizoram there as the inter state land dispute has become a big issue now. We will conclude the programme on 10th February at Malegarh located in the Indo-Bangladesh border under North Karimganj Assembly Constituency. We will walk an average of 11 kms everyday for 15 days to cover a total of 165 kms.”
Opposition party leader Debabrata Saikia, who was present at the news meet, criticised the government saying whatever Ambani and Adani like, the Assam State Government is doing that only. In violation of the rules, the animals from Assam State Zoo were sent to Ambani’s zoo in Gujarat.
Saikia told reporters, “Assam is renowned worlwide for it’s one horned rhino. Two one horned rhinos were transported to Ambani’s private zoo from Assam. Before that two exotic birds were also transported to Ambani’s zoo from Assam. Speaking on the floor of Assembly, Assam Government told that all of it was done under barter system. A pact was signed between Assam Government and Ambani’s zoo. In exchange of the two birds it was decided that two zebras would be sent to Assam. Instead of zebras, Assam received 4 or 6 electric vehicles. Despite breaking the law no action was taken by the state government.”
Today’s press conference held at Silchar District Congress office was attended by opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, Rokibul Hussain as well as other leaders of Assam Pradesh Congress.
