Altaf Hussain accused in illegal transportation of betel nuts detained by Karimganj Police
One of the most discussed and debated businessmen of Silchar, owner of Cachar Traders m, Altaf Hussain has been detained yet again.
Karimganj Police has detained the alleged mastermind behind illegal transportation of Burmese betel nut. His name is also linked with fertiliser scam where subsidised fertilisers like urea that are meant for eligible farmers are transported to Mizoram.
SP of Karimganj, Padmanabh Baruah confirmed that the businessman accused of several crimes has been detained. According to top cops, Karimganj Police was informed by Cachar Police about certain cases where Altaf Hussain is the prime accused.
Meanwhile, Cachar Police, under the leadership of SP Numal Mahatta has sent a team to take the custody of Altaf Hussain.
It is worth mentioning here that Altaf Hussain was arrested during former SP Ramandeep Kaur’s operation all out. He was later escorted by Guwahati Crime Branch and eventually, after spending a few nights in jail, he got the bail.
However, since Numal Mahatta joined in as SP, he was, according to sources, in search of Altaf Hussain. Hussain was in Bangladesh and today he was on his way to India through Sutarkandi border. That is when Karimganj Police detained him.
How the investigation transpires and if Cachar Police manages to submit a case diary that stands the scrutiny of law are things that’s worth keeping an eye on.
