Hailakandi police seizes 137 gms of heroin, SP says investigation on to nab culprits
Major success for Hailakandi police force. Based on a secret tip-off, the Hailakandi police launched an operation to detain a car smuggling contraband illegally from Mizoram to Hailakandi of Assam.
The police, under the leadership of Superintendent Nabneet Mahanta, had set up checkposts at various junctions under Ramnathpur Police Station. The area bordering Assam and Mizoram was cordoned off to nab the contraband. Meanwhile, the miscreants transporting the banned substances had gotten an intimation about the police’s presence.
The miscreants diverted the route and accelerated to the full to evade police officials. “They met with an accident where they collided with a parked motorcycle. Soon they abandoned the car and started running away. Sensing the close proximity of the police, they threw the bag in the woods and fled the spot. The police continued the search and recovered the bag resulting in a seizure of 137 gms of suspected heroin,” the SP said while speaking to Barak Bulletin.
“We have a sense of the people behind this smuggling and the investigation is still on to apprehend them,” he added.
The police recovered the Alto car bearing registration number ML 11 2585. It is suspected that the vehicle was traveling from Mizoram.
