Bust of poet Ramkumar Nandi Majumdar established in Silchar

A bust of poet Ramkumar Nandi Majumdar was installed in the area adjacent to Ramkumar Nandi Pathshala in Silchar on Monday by the management committee of Madanmohan Akhra.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Assam University Professor Tapodhir Bhattacharjee unveiled the bust of the statue on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. Also, eminent poet and journalist Atin Das unveiled “Ramkumar Charit” and “Veerangana potrottor” in the unveiling ceremony.

While speaking to the representatives of the media, the president of the committee Shibabrata Dutta highlighted various aspects of the career of Ramkumar Nandi Majumdar and said that the poet started modernity in the style of Bengali literary practice in Barak-Surma valley.

Throughout his working life, he wrote literature, jatra pala (folk drama), poetry and music from Silchar Tarapur area. Today, on the occasion of the installation of Ramkumar’s bust, his great-granddaughter Shibani Brahmachari unveiled an information sheet containing a brief introduction to his life and work.

Also, a cultural program based on Ramkumar’s literary works was organised on this day. Social worker Antu Dutta, Editor Karunasindhu Deb Choudhury, folk researcher Amalendu Bhattacharjee were present on behalf of the Samiti along with others.
