Miscreants attack Assam Police Personnel in Cachar on Assam – Mizoram highway near border

Police constable Rahim Uddin Khan was seriously injured in a fatal attack. The incident took place on Saturday at around 2.30 pm in front of Lailapur Police Patrol Post on 306 Silchar-Aizawl National Highway.

A luxury car coming from Mizoram was intercepted by the on-duty police during naka checking. Police constable Rahim Uddin Khan entered the car for conducting search. Just then the miscreants inside the vehicle locked Police constable Rahim Khan inside and started attacking him. In the meantime, the driver of the car started speeding the car forward. Other police officials followed the car. After coming about one kilometre from the spot, the gang left Rahim Uddin in a bloody state on the road and fled with the car.

Police constable Rahim Uddin was rescued and first taken to Dholai Primary Health Centre in seriously injured condition. As his injury was serious, the doctor on duty sent him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Currently, Rahim Uddin Khan is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

It maybe mentioned that a few days ago, on duty BDP secretary Anup Das of Channighat was attacked in a similar manner. He was rescued from the road with serious injuries and shifted first to Silchar Medical and College and later to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Das died while being treated there.

On March 9, 6th Assam Police Battalion Jawan Kartik Nath, who was working at the Kholisha border outpost on the Assam-Mizoram border, died on the spot after being hit by a miscreant’s car on his way back to the camp. Kartik was a resident of Khirni area in Hamreng district.

It maybe noted that criminals involved in illegal trade try to use the 306 Silchar-Aizawl National Highway and other roads connected with Mizoram to carry out various types of illegal smuggling trade. Police personnel deployed in border areas are always active to stop smuggling. They are constantly intercepting various illegal contrabands including drugs as well as smuggled articles. This is why the mafias involved in smuggling business abhor the police personnel. Police personnel on duty at the border are being repeatedly attacked by criminals. Many speculate that the luxury car that picked up Police constable Rahim Khan may have contained drugs. The Police are continuing their search for the vehicle.
