Final farewell to Nandi Maharaj: Shiva devotees gather in Udharbond for nagar parikrama and burial ceremony for dead bull
The labourers of Jaipur Lediyacherra Tea Garden located at Udharbond went around the village singing kirtans and buried a dead bull considered sacred to Lord Shiva. For the past seven eight years, the red colored bull was seen roaming around Jaipur area including Lediyacherra tea garden. The very calm natured bull was known as Nandi Maharaj in the greater Jaipur area. Every house in the tea garden had his presence.
Nandi Maharaj was ill since last few days. His condition suddenly deteriorated on Tuesday morning and he died in the afternoon. A shadow of grief fell over the entire area due to his death. As soon as the news of Nandi Maharaj’s death spread in the greater Jaipur area, locals including members of various Hindu organisations thronged Lediyacherra Tea Garden to pay their last respects to Nandi Maharaj. It was decided to bury the dead Nandi Maharaj by doing a nogor porikroma.
At 4 pm, the dead body was carried in a truck decorated with flowers and the functionaries of various Hindu organisations including Shiva devotees of all ages of Jaipur area, went out in the Nogor Porikroma by playing kirton songs with cymbals. The porikroma started from Lediyacherra Tea Garden, passing through Jaipur Nutan Bazaar, Jaipur Bus Stand and ended behind the block playground where he was buried.
Hundreds of devotees participated in the Nogor Porikroma. Everyone was saddened by the death of this Nandi Maharaj and paid their last respects wishing his soul to rest in peace. A shadow of mourning fell over the entire area due to his untimely death.
