Snatchers are active again: Robbers on motorcycle flee with bag with cash and gold worth Rs 5 lakh in Katigorah
In a shocking incident, two robbers on a motorbike fled with a bag of a jewelry shop owner containing 35,000 rupees cash and gold ornaments worth over 5 lakh rupees while he was paying obeisance at the Shani temple in Katigorah Chowrangi market of Cachar district. The victim, identified as Subrata Roy Karmakar, had closed his shop and kept his bag near his shop close to the Shani temple when the robbers snatched it.
This is the second incident of its kind in the area in recent months. Just a few months ago, a similar incident had taken place at a jewelry shop located at a stone throw distance from Katigorah Police Station, where a bag full of gold ornaments worth twelve lakh rupees was snatched by robbers on a motorbike. The police have been unable to solve that case, raising questions about their role in preventing such thefts.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, and there is a growing sense of concern and insecurity due to the frequent thefts in the area.
