Barak Democratic Front calls for fair inclusion of Bengali candidates in Assam Government’s third and fourth-grade recruitment drive based on their population

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the results of Assam government’s third and fourth grade recruitment exams will be announced on the next 3rd and 4th May. The appointment letters will be handed over to 50,000 candidates in the presence of Union Minister Amit Shah on 11th May. Apart from welcoming this initiative of the Chief Minister, the Barak Democratic Front has again voiced their demand that minorities including Bengalis should not deprived in this recruitment process in an unethical manner.

In a press conference, BDF Chief Convenor Pradip Dutta Roy said that the number of minorities including Bengalis selected in the past recruitment drive to 40,000 posts was negligible though the number of Bengali speakers in Assam is more than one crore among the three crore thirty lakhs population of the state. And it’s not that they don’t have talent. Therefore, out of the next 50,000 posts, in proportion to the population, at least 15,000 names of Bengali candidates should be there in the final list. Dutta Roy said that the number of registered unemployed youths in Barak Valley is currently more than four lakhs. So Barak Valley should also have a large number of candidates included in the next list. He said they want this time there should be no discrimination against minorities including Bengalis. In this regard, he appealed to the officials of the newly formed Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Assam to speak up. He also said that Minority Development Board Chairman and former MLA Shiladitya Dev also has a responsibility in this regard. As Shiladitya has always polarized Hindu Bengalis, this time he should show his love for Hindus by arranging jobs for Hindu Bengalis in the state.

The BDF Chief Convenor today appealed to all MLAs and MPs of Barak Valley to speak out on this issue. He also said that many Hindu Bengali youths are associated with organisations like RSS, Bajrang Dal, or Vishva Hindu Parishad, but till today no pro bengali statement of these organisations has been heard. He said if they are really sympathetic towards the Hindu Bengalis of the state, then it is their responsibility to see that Bengali Hindus are not discriminated against in the upcoming recruitment process. Similarly, he also appealed to the Bengali organisations in Brahmaputra valley to make a strong demand for inclusion of the names of Bengalis in the upcoming recruitment process.

Dutta Roy said that based on how many Bengalis get jobs in the upcoming recruitment process, it will be decided which party the Bengalis of this state will vote for in the 2024 elections. In this regard, he called upon all the Bengalis of the state to unite.

BDF Media Cell Convener Hrishikesh Dey told that the Chief Minister himself said in Silchar that there were many names of candidates from Barak Valley in the primary list of grade three and grade four, but the district wise list of Barak Valley was not released despite their repeated requests. Compulsively, an RTI application was filed in this regard to the Chief Information Officer, who later forwarded it to SEBA. Recently, an official of SEBA has informed through letter that this list cannot be given until the final result is out. Hrishikesh said if that is the case, then on what basis did the Chief Minister insist on the names of Barak’s candidates being included in the list? It is difficult to understand who is telling the truth. Therefore, he demanded from the Chief Minister as well as the state government that the district-wise recruitment list should be published in the media in the future.

Chief Convenor Joydeep Bhattacharjee informed this news in a press release on behalf of BDF Media Cell.
