Drunk and drive accident near NIT Silchar, pedestrian woman dead
A tragic road accident occured at Jogipara adjacent to NIT Silchar resulting in the death of a female pedestrian. The woman lost her life in the road accident that occured at 10 am on Tuesday at Ghungoor Kuwarpar which led to tension in the area. According to the locals, it is learned that the pedestrian died on the spot when a speeding ambassador coming from Assam University towards Silchar hit her from behind. The ambassador with registration no. AS 23E 2248 was overspeeding and the driver was drunk due to which he couldn’t control the vehicle. After hitting the woman pedestrian, the ambassador fell into a pit on the side of the road.
The deceased woman has been identified as Gauri Nuniya aged 57 years. After the incident, locals gathered at the spot and took the woman to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where she was declared dead by the doctor.
Meanwhile, severe tension was created in the area centered around this terrible road accident. The Ghungoor Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Locals told with anger that road accidents from Ghungoor Kuwarpar to the bypass have become a common phenomenon now. Many vehicles pass through this busy road by overspeeding. Locals have been victims of several road accidents in the last few days.
There are many schools and colleges in the area including Silchar Medical College and Hospital. But the people are victims of extreme harassment due to lack of speed breakers and traffic police in the area. Locals have demanded the administration to arrange traffic police in every point of the area, alongwith speed breakers at NIT point, Ghungoor bypass and other areas.
