Hailakandi SP warns Pradip Dutta Roy against involvement in Barak Bandh
Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi, Leena Doley has written to Pradip Dutta Roy, the leader of Barak Democratic Front issuing a warning under the powers constitutionally bestowed upon the SP.
The letter states, “Input received that the Barak Democratic Front, called for 12 Hours Barak
Valley Bandh on 30.06.2023 from 5 AM to 5 PM in protest against delimitation order of Assembly and Parliamentary Constituency which is passed by Hon’ble Election Commission of India.”
The letter adds, “There is reasonable grounds that you will be involved in law and order problem which may led towards commission of serious cognizable offence.”
“You are therefore informed through this Notice US-149 Cr.P.C to desist from getting involved in cognizable offence and in the event if failure in your part action will be initiated against you as per law.”
This comes within 24 hours of the announcement made by Pradip Dutta Roy yesterday. Holding a press conference, Dutta Roy had urged people to cut across party line and religions barriers and join the movement as a mark of protest against the proposed delimitation draft. The draft proposes Silchar Lok Sabha seat to be reserved for SC candidates. Also, Ward No. 1 to 7 of Silchar Municipality Board have been proposed to be excluded from the Silchar Legislative Assembly constituency.
Lastly, the proposed delimitation also curtails the representation of Barak Valley in the Assembly as the number of Assembly Seats have been proposed to be reduced to 13 from the existing 15.
