Digital robbery in Cachar: Armed miscreants rob money using QR code

“Yes to digital payment, no to cash” – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan was followed in letter and spirit by a group of robbers in Katigorah, Cachar as they used a digital formula to commit the robbery. The robbers used QR CODE to rob a driver as they couldn’t get much cash.

As per reports, a container vehicle came at night from from Guwahati to Katigorah. After arrival, the driver, Sunil Rabha, parked the vehicle by the side of the national highway. At around 2 am, a group of six armed robbers boarded the container vehicle. The robbers took the driver of the vehicle to a secluded place by brandishing their weapons and started robbing him. The driver had only Rs. 2,000 in his pocket. The robbers were not satisfied with the low amount.

The robbers pressured the driver to pay through UPI. A robber then showed the QR code of his Phone Pe account on his mobile and pressured the driver to transfer the money through the QR code. Fearing for his life, the driver used the robber’s QR code to transfer another 3,000 rupees from his account to the robber’s account. But the robbers were still not satisfied. After the money was transferred, the robbers seized the driver’s mobile phone.

After losing everything to the robbers, driver Sunil Rabha later lodged a case at the Katigorah Police Station in the morning. The Police are on the search for the digital robbers.

There is a lot of sensation surrounding the digital robbery that took place in Katigorah. Many believe that such a robbery using digital technology may be the first in entire Assam.
