Congress workers protest against price rise of essential commodities in Silchar
A large procession was taken out today by Congress workers from Silchar District Congress office to the Deputy Commissioner’s office for protesting against the rise in prices of essential commodities. The procession passed through various streets of the city. After arriving infront of the office of the District Commissioner, all the Congress workers staged a protest against the price hike and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
The procession of Congress was joined in by thousands of Congress workers. They criticised the Central and State Government for raising the price of essential commodities like medicines, cooking gas, petrol, diesel and baby food leading to harassment of the general public.
Speaking to reporters Cachar District Congress President Abhijit Paul said, “The poor people can’t even buy life saving medicines due to increased taxes. During Congress rule, the gas cylinder costed 460 rupees. At that time Smriti Irani protested on the road with gas cylinders. Now the price of gas cylinder is 1,300 rupees and she is silent. The unemployment problem has increased but the Chief Minister has no answer.”
