Wildlife Enthusiast Trikal Chakraborty Rescues Ferocious King Cobra in Cachar District

In a heart-pounding feat of bravery and compassion, wildlife enthusiast Trikal Chakraborty, renowned for his dedication to protecting wildlife, successfully rescued a massive King Cobra from the confines of a store room in Binod Nagar, Cachar District.

The awe-inspiring King Cobra, measuring an astonishing 12.5 feet in length and weighing approximately 7 kilograms, had found its way into the local resident’s store room, causing a stir of concern among the townsfolk. With a deep understanding of wildlife and its nuances, Chakraborty was promptly called upon by Dharmendra Tewari to handle the delicate situation.

“I was alerted about the entrance of the King Cobra inside the store room and reached the spot with a sense of urgency. The snake was behaving ferociously, making the rescue challenging,” Chakraborty revealed while speaking with Barak Bulletin.

Undeterred by the daunting task that lay ahead, Chakraborty collaborated with Sagnik Gupta, the owner of Om Sai gym, and received immense support from the locals to undertake the rescue mission. Adhering to best practices in wildlife handling, they patiently and skillfully worked to bring the formidable serpent under control.

“It took us very long to bring the snake under control. I was supported by owner of Om Sai gym, Sagnik Gupta, and with the cooperation of locals, we managed to rescue the snake while following the best practices. After rescuing the snake, we have released it in their natural habitat,” Chakraborty recounted.

Throughout the operation, the expertise and perseverance displayed by Chakraborty were commendable, ensuring the safety of both the rescuers and the King Cobra. He further expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the local community for their responsible approach to the situation.

Chakraborty’s act of releasing the King Cobra back into its natural habitat exemplified the significance of preserving India’s rich biodiversity. In acknowledgment of the critical role played by these majestic creatures in the ecosystem, the King Cobra is listed under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, granting it legal protection from harm and exploitation.
