Kristi Vivek Independence Day Chess Competition: Holy Cross the champion, Runner Up Don Bosco

4th edition of Fenesta Independence Day Chess Meet held at Kristi Vivek Sangskritik Sangstha in association with Cachar District Chess Association ended with great enthusiasm. In a dazzling display of strategic brilliance, Holy Cross School emerged as the triumphant champion in the 4th edition of Fenesta Independence Day Chess Meet 2023, a prestigious inter-school chess event organised by Kristi Vivek Sangskritik Sangstha in collaboration with Cachar District Chess Association. The two-day tournament, held on August 13 and 15, witnessed an impressive gathering of over 200 promising chess players from the Barak Valley region.

In a closely contested finale, Holy Cross School secured their victory, clinching the Sudhangshu Mohan Dutta Memorial Trophy alongwith a cash prize of ₹3,500. Don Bosco HS School exhibited outstanding performance, securing the runner-up position and walking away with the Paresh Chandra Chakraborty Memorial Trophy, alongwith a cash prize of ₹3,000.

Abhrajyoti Nath showcased his exceptional chess skills in the Open category, capturing both the prestigious Ratna Dey Memorial Trophy and a cash prize of ₹2,000. The esteemed Minister for Forest, Fisheries, and Excise Department of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya, graced the event with his presence, inspiring and interacting with the participants, organisers, and guardians.

The prize distribution ceremony, held within the premises of Kristi Vivek Sangskritik Sangstha on August 15, added a touch of grandeur to the occasion. Bibendu Das, the president of CDCA, highlighted the event’s growing stature over the years, with participant numbers surging from 72 in the inaugural edition to over 200 this year. The tournament’s essence lies in fostering a deep interest in chess, encouraging more players to embrace the game earnestly.

Biswajit Dutta, secretary of Kristi Vivek Sangskritik Sangstha, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the participating schools for their invaluable contribution. Babul Hore, former president of DSA, Silchar, praised the organisers for turning the tournament into a veritable “festival of chess.” Konad Purkayastha commended Kristi Vivek Sangskritik Sangstha for their efforts in promoting chess and serving society. Among others who were present during the prize distribution ceremony were Kushumeshu Purkayastha, advisor to Kristi Vivek Sangskritik Sangstha.
