Two AB Constables in Hailakandi apprehended and suspended by Police for involvement in drug trade, Investigation continues

In a startling development, two AB constables, Narayan Das and Ainul Ali, were apprehended by the Hailakandi Police on charges related to involvement in drug trafficking. The incident unfolded following a complaint lodged at the Hailakandi Sadar Police Station, which has sent shockwaves throughout the region.

According to Hailakandi Superintendent of Police, Leena Doley, the complaint detailed a harrowing encounter in which an individual from outside Hailakandi was lured by Narayan Das and Bahar Uddin with the promise of narcotics. However, upon the potential buyer’s arrival in Hailakandi, discrepancies between the product displayed to him on WhatsApp and the one presented in person raised suspicions of counterfeiting. This led to a heated altercation between the two parties.

The situation took a violent turn as Narayan Das, Ainul Ali and Bahar Uddin allegedly assaulted the complainant, snatched his money, and confiscated his Bluetooth device. Additionally, the victim’s mobile phone was reportedly destroyed during the altercation. Alert locals promptly informed the police about the commotion, prompting a swift response from law enforcement officers. The complainant was rescued by the police team, with Narayan Das and Ainul Ali taken into custody. However, Bahar Uddin managed to evade capture at that time.

In the wake of the incident, preliminary investigations revealed that both Narayan Das and Ainul Ali were serving as AB constables, a revelation that led to their immediate suspension from official duties. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough interrogation of the detained constables to uncover potential connections within the drug trade network.

The matter has not gone unnoticed by higher-ranking officials, as it was promptly communicated to the Assam Director General of Police (DGP). In response, the DGP has issued instructions to initiate departmental proceedings against any police personnel involved in illegal activities. Hailakandi SP has anticipated that the two constables will be dismissed from their jobs within the next month after conclusion of the departmental enquiry.
